Monitoring KACO Inverters

Inverter Prerequisites

The KACO inverters supported by WattMetrics come standard with the communications features necessary to integrate with WattMetrics.

Supported Models

WattMetrics is compatible with the models listed below. If your inverter model isn't listed below, that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work with WattMetrics. Please contact us if you don't see your inverter here.

XP10U-H4/H6, XP100U H2 & H4.

Support for the following models is available on request: 1502x, 1502xi, 2502x, 2502xi, 3502x, 3502xi, 5002x, 5002xi, 6400xi, 7600xi, 6400M, 7600M.

Connecting to a WattMetrics Agent

1.  Configure the inverter(s) for monitoring:

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions to enter a unique communication address for every inverter to be monitored.

  • Make sure the "MMI RS485 Role" is set to "Slave".

2.  If there are multiple inverters:

  • Connect their RS485 ports to each other in series, following the manufacturer's instructions, using shielded CAT5/6 cable.

  • Make sure the "MMI RS485 Address" is unique for each inverter.

3a.  If a WattMetrics Residential agent is being used:

  • Connect the USB end of the cable provided by WattMetrics to one of the USB ports on the agent.

  • Connect the bare wires at the other end of the cable to the KACO RS485-2 terminal in the inverter, as outlined in the KACO instruction manual.

WattMetrics USB-485 Cable  Color   Function  KACO RS485-2 (port number, port name, wire number)
485+ orange data (B) + 3D, RS485B2, C327
485- yellow data (A) - 3C, RS485A2, C326
GND black common 4D, RS485G2, C329

3b.  If a WattMetrics Commercial agent is being used:

  • Use shielded CAT5/6 cable to connect the agent to the KACO RS485-2 terminal in the inverter, as outlined in the KACO instruction manual.

Agent COM1 or COM2 Color Function KACO RS485-2 (port number, port name, wire number)
485+ white w/orange stripe data (B) + 3D, RS485B2, C327
485- orange data (A) - 3C, RS485A2, C326
GND brown common 4D, RS485G2, C329

4.  Finish installing the agent as outlined in the "installing agents" section of this manual.
